In like a lamb...

February was fairly uneventful, and actually sped by without notice. I did DJ, on spur of the moment, at my semi-regular hangout POT in Fujieda a few weeks ago for their Heavy Metal night. I spun some old 80’s hair favorites like Ratt, Judas Preist, Quiet Riot, Scorpions, Skid Row and Iron Maiden, along with 90’s stoner/grunge-esque stuff like Kyuss, Soundgarden and Tool. Needless to say, my iPod has been cranking out mostly old metal ever since.

I also saw my first live band since getting to Japan in a hole in the wall place in Shizuoka City. It was not really a bar or club, just a stage, a cooler full of beer and soda, and a sound guy who looked like a roadie for the Japanese Spinal Tap tour.

Two rather unimpressive, yet enthusiastic local bands introduced to me by a few ex-pat Canadian and American teachers I met at a club, played a bent mix of prog punk and pop. I must say, though, the two bassists I saw that night were impressive, indeed.

I noticed a poster on the wall of the nameless room of Guitar Wolf’s latest Japanese tour for Wednesday, March 7 in Shizuoka, but my work schedule may not allow me to see it.
